The mission

Start with a county trend. Narrow it to a crime, neighborhood, hour, or agency. Zoom to a published block. Open the record. LA Crime connects that entire journey.

The problem

Police data arrives through different agencies, vocabularies, boundaries, clocks, and file formats. We translate those releases into familiar crime names, places, charts, maps, and searchable records.

The product standard

• Every chart should be clickable.
• Every plain-language crime name should lead to the agency’s original wording.
• Every location should connect to a familiar place.
• Every result should link back to its official source.
• Every missing field should be visible where it matters.

Independent project

LA Crime is built independently from the agencies it covers. The records come from official public systems, and every record view links back to its publisher.
